Goodbye Weightloss

So as I mentioned I'm fitting into my pre-pregnancy clothes. Was. Today I received two batches of Panjiri. For the uninitiated, this is a traditional Indian sweet made for mothers right after they give birth. It's supposed to help you heal from childbirth, full of micronutrients, vitamins, fat and even "glue" to help your body stitch itself back together. On paper, a lovely thing, in real life it is delicious, deadly stuff. Here are some of its yummy ingredients - almonds, raisins, ghee (clarified butter - again for the uninitiated), flax seeds, sugar, flour, lotus seeds, melon seeds. Basically any yummy fatty thing that comes to mind can be tossed in. That's not entirely true - the original creation was made back in the days when a village midwife birthed babies and there were no pregnancy multivitamins to help a woman's body prepare to become a mother. My mother says that the saying was "You receive a new body once you give birth." They really took that to heart, a new mother was pampered by her family and if she was lucky her only job was to eat panjiri and care for her body and her baby - that too with help.
I digress, my mother made *really good* panjiri today. So, it looks like I will not be able to get rid of that lovely muffin top I acquired a few years back. sigh
